I have extensively used Moodle to teach systems thinking and dynamic modelling courses at graduate and post grad level.

I find Moodle extremely flexible. It has a relatively small learning curve and is easy to install on the server. Courses can be configured for various learning (and for that matter teaching) styles.

It has a host of features which can be used effectively for providing content in various formats.
