Subject: Changing the Culture

Message:

So, who is going to write newspaper letters to the editor and editorials on the damage that the present school system and "No Child Left Behind" is doing to the children and the country?? We may have here a situation like the fable of the emperor's clothes where many people see the truth but feel they are alone. Might it be possible to start a ground swell leading to a new kind of education?

Here is a little more on Montessori-
Much of what conventional education is and does is not congruent with what is generally understood by scientists about human learning. The insights that Montessori discovered and the pedagogy she developed 100 years ago line up with current scientific knowledge. The problem is that most schools haven't caught up to this new understanding in education in order to solidify and inspire learning. Education still operates from assumptions about human potential and individual learning that are outdated, unexamined and rooted in habit rather than science. There is a huge gap between what science knows and is continuing to learn and what teachers do with children.
