Sharon, your description of the plans is exactly how they were implemented in both Kitsap and Chittenden. The main responsibility fell on the students. Chittenden actually began by using Daytimers. It was an experience to walk into one of those multi-aged "houses" and be able to ask any student what they were doing and why. They would pull up their plan. This is light years away from students today who are in Algebra because that is next in the sequence. In class they all do the same textbook problems as the students sitting with them in the classroom because that is what the day's lesson plan entails. Even more discouraging that lesson plan is too often shaped by questions teachers know will be on the NCLB tests.
