Dear Jay: innovation is the result of the R&D and is as thou sayest, is unpredictable and disruptive. We agree that as designed the educational system, this does not contribute with an innovative scheme. It is necessary to emphasize that innovation is not the result of a linear process continues after the R&D or of the investment. Innovation is the product of an interactive process, where a network of researchers, properly led, will generate new ideas and at an unexpected time, this feedback of ideas gives as a result an innovative idea. From a systemic perspective, the effect of the lack of innovation is the disappearance of firms and jobs. To innovate requires developing prospectively a vision that through the SWOT matrix, game theory, and other tools, generate development strategies (for example Nokia).
