One of the reasons that we always had a big "work bench" hands on place to fiddle, fix and explore. - and break stuff too.

I can appreciate that many parents are not in a position to provide an "enriched" home environment, but I also suspect that many take the view that the public school system is entirely "responsible" for their kid's education. My kids got the "autodidact" speech early, and often.

My kids are long out of the education system. However, what I see today are "internet" kids full of the most outrageous urban myths and conspiracy theories, and apparently no adult supervision. The circular blame-game going on in the US (I'm Canadian) is, of course, pointless and destructive.

It will not likely end well.
