Not to go off on a tangent here but this statement compels me ask: Can knowledge be transferred?

The idea of transferring knowledge seems such a mechanistic kind of thinking.

IMHO, data and information can be transferred but not knowledge and not wisdom. Knowledge and wisdom can only be constructed by him or her who would have it.
