Feedback Loops
Posted by robert.koelbl on 2/25/2006
I like the way Prof. Forrester, by throwing in a simple but difficult proposition. Thus, I would like to make a similar contribution, starting from his (and Jeff Levin's) definition:
"Everything, which reaches a goal or a value different from the thermodynamic equilibrium, is controlled by feedback loop(s)."
Strictly speaking, that does not define a feedback loop, i.e. what it actually is, it only describes its operational function.
So what is a feedback look? Here is my first attempt:
"A feedback loop is a use of the system's information for enabling the system to behave at a level different from the thermodynamic equilibrium."
sincerely,
Robert Kölbl
