Andy Ford's book Modeling the Environment might be a good starting point. It's available from Island Press (http://www.islandpress.org) Andy is a faculty member in the Program in Environmental Science and Regional Planning at Washington State University in Pullman, WA and his web site http://www.wsu.edu/~forda/ can also provide some additional resources.
