Thanks to all who responded with sources for social revolutions. Now, I'm looking for models of development. For instance, there is a film, "Ancient Futures-Learning from the Ladakh (Tibetans who migrated to northern India) by Helena Norberg-Hodge and excellent curriculum activities from Rethinking Schools that explore the ways in which modernization destroy the Ladakhi culture and environment. Has anyone mapped complex development processes that include not only outside interventions, such as a highway that bring trade and tourists but also influences from 'modern ideas' and the capital system of profit?
