Here's some examples from today's KC Star:

State retirement funds speculate on commodity futures. So what?

Black cardiac arrest patients die at a higher rate than white CA patients. Why?

The recession is over. Really? How did it happen? How did it start?

H1N1 is hitting. How does it spread? How is it stopped?

Proposal made to eliminate school crossing guards. How did it come to this? What happens if a student is hit crossing the street?

The Fire Department is taking over Emergency Ambulance services. Good or Bad? Why or Why not? Causes and implications?

Krugman urges us to "Appreciate the Deficit". What are the implications of a deficit? A small one? A huge one?

Military chief wants more troops for war. Is war always like this? Is there a time "less is more"? If Russia couldn't invade Afghanistan, what are we doing differently to lead to a different result?

Bipartisan talks collapse. Really? What made them continue? Was there a breaking point causing the collapse? What did the parties have in common? What did they disagree on? How does a general atmosphere of distrust permeating the environment play into the situation.


This was a quick glance through the paper. Does one need technical terminology to investigate this systematically? The dynamics of the system? Or can we simply integrate cause/effect logic to show the connections, the implications, the feedback loops, etc.?
