Follow-on...
Now that I read this in the light of day, a few modifications.
For Activity #1, use as much linear room as you have. The longer the distance the more likely people will take off at a good pace.
For Activity #2, I would spread people out much mode than arm's length. If you have the room, I recommend seven to 10 feet, 20 if you have it. The group will likely compact and if people are too close together it will be nothing but an instant can of sardines, with learning a remote possibility.
There are variations. One, hand one of the students a card with "secret instructions", telling her/him to walk away from the group (assuming room is available for that. Two, appoint two people to remain stationary, on opposite sides of the group; tell the remaining people in the group they have to choose one of them, but not both of them. Three, have the remaining students choose both of them. (They will simply form a knot between the two people, but it may be useful in comparing initial conditions and rules (structure) with feedback.
