Bingo! This is consistent with a prevailing, implicit purpose of schooling: To produce as few winners as possible and as many losers as possible. It is this purpose that must be surfaced and dealt with nearly everywhere in order for our K-12 public education systems to become capable enough to continually absorb to a great extent the wide-ranging variation that shows up at school. Kids "off the grid" will be among the variation, not exceptions to it.
