I define systems thinking very simply:

Systems thinking is the art of making visible, invisible structures-- which have originated from our past actions and compel present action.

People who are able to think the consequences of their actions more holistically (either intuitively or by discplined thinking) are superior systems thinkers. As an Engineer by Profession I have seen tehh above definition come true many times during project implementation.
