Della, by impact on the global market do you mean impact on the transfer of fruits and vegetables from any one place to any other place? All vegetables and fruits are local to the place they are grown.
I make the assumption that overall demand remains the same (no matter where they are grown and consumed, people are eating the same amount of fruits and vegetables). Some variables that come to mind are:
Fuel consumption would decline, demand for labor would become more dispersed into local growing areas, green space would increase, the boundaries between urban and suburban areas would become more permeable, feelings of community would increase as people frequented local markets, the growth of megastores would level off or decline, prices would increase in the short run, then decline, but the net would be an increase, and the value of real estate near local markets would increase modestly.
This is all off the top of my head without a shred of evidence to support it.
